The Edwin Carter Discovery Center is a museum and the former residence of Edwin Carter, a gold prospector who arrived in Colorado in the mid-1800s. The negative impact of mining on the ecosystem had a profound impression on him. And he developed a strong interest in Rocky Mountain fauna. He became a taxidermist and curated and maintained a collection of wildlife specimens, with over 3,300 specimens in his collection at the time of his death. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science presently has several of these relics on exhibit. A couple of them, though, are still in the house today.
