Loco Moco

Loco Moco incredible Hawaiian comfort food classic is made by topping rice with a fried burger, then smothering it in a deep brown sauce, and finishing it off with a fried egg. Seriously, how did this combo not occur to someone until 1949? We’ve all been there, so whether you’re a broke student or an older professional who wishes they were, this cheap, filling bowl of goodness is the perfect solution. Serve with green onions as a garnish.

Loco Moco supposes a simple dish made using basic ingredients. It starts with a bed of sticky white rice, then a hamburger patty, brown gravy, and a sunny-side-up egg are added.

In the 1940s, a group of boys sitting at the Lincoln Grill in Hilo, Hawaii, begged the waitress to prepare a dinner that they could afford. Rice, beef, and gravy was the notion they came up with, and the rest is history.
