Flood-hit villagers: Eastern Mindoro’s CALAPAN CITY – In response to Naujan, this province’s town is being placed under a state of calamity due to floods brought on by the northeast monsoon and the shear line. A group of Mindoreans from Metro Manila started a relief mission there on Wednesday.

The Association of Mindoreos (TAMS), founded in 1997, often hosts food programs for the poor, medical missions, and gift-giving to the elderly.

A resolution declaring the town to be in a condition of calamity was voted on by the Sangguniang Bayan of Naujan on January 23 at its special meeting.

Since the nonstop rains began in December, at least 5,945 residences have been affected by floods, according to Joery Geroleo, municipal disaster risk reduction, and management officer.

The original estimate for the damage to agriculture was PHP77,832,739, while the initial estimate for the damage to infrastructure was PHP140,641,500.

47 agricultural villages were impacted, according to Geroleo.
