1. Town Topic Hamburgers
Town Topic Hamburgers began as a modest burger restaurant in 1937, selling hamburgers for five cents. Much has changed in the past 75 years, but everything has remained the same. They’re still handing out burgers by the bagful, but now in three locations. They still use steamed buns and grilled onions, but their burgers are a little more expensive. They still have their entire breakfast menu prepared fresh to order, but the regulars have changed. When guests order at this vintage counter, they can anticipate a wonderful selection of American staples like the Truckstop Omelet. And Frenchy (French toast) and the Haystack Sandwich consists of an egg, ham, sausage, or bacon, and cheese on Texas toast and is topped with hash browns.

22. Avocado Toast at Banksia: Breakfast Spots in Kansas City
Avocado toast, according to the average American, is a food craze that arrived from Mars a few years ago. replacing butter with nutty, natural bread and sparking a heated cultural debate about how millennials spend their money. The dish originates in Australia, where women shine and men pillage. And cheerful, bright, healthy-ish cafe culture has been the standard for over two decades. The Australian cafe fad made its way to Kansas City courtesy of Banksia, which serves avocado toast prepared from a slab of sourdough thinly coated with white miso, then topped with avocado, sesame seeds, pan-roasted cherry tomatoes, and an over-easy egg. The pavlova, a crusty meringue topped with whipped cream and fresh fruit, is another standout. Martin Cizmar is a writer who lives in the United States.

24. Happy Gillis: Best Biscuits and Gravy
It goes without saying that we adore Happy Gillis. We’ve previously written about the culinary prowess of Abbey-Jo, one of the restaurant’s founders who sources ingredients from nearby farms and creates a straightforward menu.
Inside Happy Gillis, there is a relaxed and, well, happy vibe. Our owner and cuisine enthusiast Brenda Geiger named it the best breakfast in Kansas City. Brenda’s “regular” is biscuits and gravy, which she serves with homemade sausage gravy and an egg on top. The sausage for the gravy comes from Broadway Butcher.
In addition to breakfast, Happy Gillis offers a small selection of drinks such Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and non-alcoholic drinks like bottomless Messenger Coffee and Rishi tea.
TIP: Happy Gillis is open from 9 AM to 2 PM on Friday through Sunday. Visit the Columbus Park Raman Shop during the week if you want to sample their culinary prowess.
25. Classic Cup: Best Omelets
Classic Cup on the Plaza is Brenda’s second pick for a breakfast establishment in Kansas City. She suggests it for people-watching, patio relaxation, and omelette consumption.
The Sicilian Omelet is Brenda’s favourite food. It is made with mozzarella, caramelised onion, and Scimeca’s Italian Sausage, which is unique to Kansas City. They feature a comprehensive menu that includes anything from their “colossal” cinnamon rolls to hash, pancakes, quiche, and oatmeal if that sounds too crazy.
