The Edwin Carter Discovery Center is a museum and the former residence of Edwin Carter, a gold prospector who arrived in Colorado in the mid-1800s. The negative impact of mining on the ecosystem had a profound impression on him. And he developed a strong interest in Rocky Mountain fauna. He became a taxidermist and curated and maintained a collection of wildlife specimens, with over 3,300 specimens in his collection at the time of his death.
