Jersey Mike Sub

When I was a child, there was just one place to go for a sub sandwich. At the time, it was the only “healthy” fast food choice available. There are several sandwich chains in existence today, and where you eat can have a big impact on how good it is. Knowing what you want is essential, as inquiries will come thick and quickly as soon as you walk through the door.

Which type of bread are you craving? Would you like it to be vegan? Would you want some avocado or giardiniera prepared at home? If you pick the wrong location and give the wrong answers to those questions, your sub experience will be depressing.

I had only visited Jersey. Before this taste test, Mike’s. A few years ago, we went on an impromptu road trip. Ironically, that was the only available substitute in the tiny town we were passing through, and we were hungry. Having been hungry, I gobbled it up. However, I don’t recall much of it. I was therefore prepared and willing to accept this task when it was offered to me.

How I Selected and Examined the Subs

The cold menu has fourteen substitutions. I limited my choices to Jersey Shore’s Favorite, The Number Four, Turkey and Provolone, The Club Sub, The Original Italian, and The Veggie after quickly going over the ingredients and speaking with Jersey Mike’s preferences.

I chose to test each on a white sub-roll to maintain bread neutrality. I also stuck to “Mike’s Way” for the toppings, which calls for adding onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olive oil, red wine vinegar, spices, and banana peppers along with cherry pepper relish. I tried all six substitutes, and while it wasn’t a landslide, I had one winner.

5 Best Jersey Mike Sub

1st. Club Sub

Club Sub

Menu item #8 is “Turkey, ham, provolone, applewood smoked bacon & mayo.”

A victor! It might have been the bacon. Could have been the mayo. Whatever it was, out of all the subs we had, this one had the best flavor and most delectable texture. The mayo was a smooth and creamy complement to the provolone and other meats, while the bacon provided the ideal texture and saltiness. Out of all the sandwiches on the list, this one was the most gratifying, so I’ll be ordering it again.

2nd. Original Italian

Original Italian

The menu item #13, which reads, “Provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni.”

At last, a sandwich that had a distinct flavor from the rest! Most likely because there was much more meat pressed into it! In addition to prosciuttini, cappaculolo, and ham, salami and pepperoni are also included in this Italian-style sandwich. Even if my blood pressure probably began to rise just by looking at it, the sandwich was nonetheless improved by the abundance of meat. Even while it tasted better than the others, it fell short of my expectations in terms of cured beef punch. Even though I enjoyed it, I’m not sure if my heart is ready for it.

3rd. Jersey Shore’s Favorite

Jersey Shore’s Favorite

Menu item #2: “Provolone, ham, and cappacuolo.”

I was optimistic about my prospects of enjoying this sub with a name like this. But after the first mouthful, all hope was lost. The turkey tasted just like the ham—how is that possible? even though I attempted my hardest to detect the cappacuolo (a cured pig shoulder) in this sandwich, I was unable to do so. Unfortunately, Jersey Shore’s Favorite didn’t live up to my expectations and didn’t have the same strong flavor as its moniker.

4th. Turkey and Provolone

Turkey and Provolone

The menu item #7 is “Provolone and Turkey.”

Paradoxically, this sandwich’s meat inclusion didn’t set it apart from The Veggie sub all that much. Although there was less cheese, the tasteless turkey didn’t help the situation. I was only interested in the sub for about two bites before I became bored because it lacked substantial taste.

5th. Veggie

Veggie

The menu item #14 is “Switzerland, provolone, & green bell peppers.”

There is just one vegetarian option available. Like other fast-food companies, they add additional cheese in place of coming up with a clever way to take out the meat. More taste does not equate to more provolone cheese. I felt like I was eating a cheese stick instead of a sandwich because it was so flavorless. I’m pleased I added the cherry pepper relish and banana peppers because otherwise, I couldn’t have eaten more than one bite of this. I recommend adding extra veggies and a few extras, like avocado, if you want to try this sandwich and don’t mind the excess cheese. It will cost a bit more, but it will be worth it.

Conclusion

I should add that I would still pick Jersey Mike’s above the majority of other sub sandwich businesses, even though I wasn’t all that impressed with a handful of the menu choices. They have a good selection of breads and toppings, which I will surely try the next time. It feels fresh since they slice the cheese and meat in front of you, which is something I like. And I’ve received excellent service each time I’ve been. I’m excited for my upcoming Club Sub already.
