Outer Banks Season 3 on Netflix has finished filming and will be available on Netflix in 2023. Here is an updated summary of everything we currently know about Outer Banks season 3, including the three new cast members, filming dates, what to anticipate from the storyline, and more.
The juvenile criminal drama series made its debut in April 2020 and returned in July 2020 for a much-anticipated second season. The program has received numerous nominations for accolades throughout the course of its run, including the prestigious best drama and best male TV star honors at the People’s Choice Awards after season 2.

Even though there were rumors that the series had been canceled, including one that went viral on Facebook, a renewal didn’t occur until December 2021.

Outer Banks Season 3 Cast: Who’s returning and who’s new?
As part of the renewal, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shanon Burke will return as showrunners and executive producers, according to a press release obtained by What’s on Netflix.
Additionally, we are aware of the important cast members who will return for season 3:

- Bailey, Madison
- Anthony Davis
- Makenzie Cline
- Pankow, Rudy
- Dallas North
- Chuck Esten
- Starkey, Drew
- Richard Grant (upped to season regular for season 3 after debuting in season 2)
In June 2022, we got word of three new major castings for season 3 of Outer Banks via Deadline.
The new cast members to feature going forward includes:
- Carlos Singh, a Caribbean Don who is bright, cultured, and cunning and who is on his own treasure hunt, will be portrayed by Andy MacQueen (Station Eleven).
- Sofia will be portrayed by Fiona Palomo (Control Z on Netflix), a Pogue who secretly wishes to fit in with the country club crowd. She begins to develop a strong bond with Rafe since she is likable and resourceful.
- In season 3, Ryan will be portrayed by Star Girl’s Lou Ferrigno Jr. He is Singh’s chief enforcer and security officer. He is described as calm and composed but young and hungry. He has enough experience to maintain his composure, but he is also aware of the consequences of failure.
On July 1st, local news outlet WCBD News 2 stated that the show was actively casting a young John-B lookalike.
They claim:
The director of the show, John B, is reportedly seeking for a young actor to play a younger version of the character in a forthcoming episode, according to casting agencies.
A male Caucasian child between the ages of five and seven must meet the requirements. He must have light brown hair and brown or hazel eyes. You are requested not to submit your child unless they fall within that age range and approximate the part that actor Chase Stokes is portraying.
Additionally, casting calls for bartenders, waitstaff, adult Kooks and Pogues, Kook Dads, and some photo doubles were made public.
Additionally, IMDb claims that a few lesser casting decisions have been made for the upcoming season, including:
- Officer Henderson is Ted Art Newkirk
- Played by Rick Perez.
- Cruise ship patron Angela Lentz
- Security guard Drew Broderick
As you may have heard, Alexander Jennings, one of the body doubles, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident that occurred while season 3 was being filmed. Kimmie Stewart, the casting director, told The Post and Courier that Jennings was “one of the loveliest people I’ve ever encountered” and that “we are all in full shock right now.”

What is the production status of Outer Banks season 3?

According to the season 3 shooting dates, filming would take place in Charleston, South Carolina, starting on February 16th, 2022, and continuing until August 19th, 2022. Outer Banks Season 3 on Netflix
Valerie Weiss confirmed that filming did begin on February 15th in a post on Instagram on February 14th, 2022, with the caption:
I’m sending my @obx family a lot of love as they start shooting Season 3 tomorrow! See you all shortly.
Season 3 of Outer Banks will feature many episodes directed by Valerie Weiss, one of which was filmed over the course of one night in early August 2022.
On February 28, Netflix themselves made the official announcement that filming was still continuing on. The show had been under development for about a week at that point.
Throughout the summer of 2022, Outer Banks season 3 was still being filmed.
