Bacon that has been wrapped in chocolate like at a fair! Bacon’s saltiness and chocolate’s sweetness make the ideal combination. What could be more perfect? Naturally, extra garnishes like candy sprinkles, chopped pecans, or dried apple chips!

Ingredients

  • 12 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 12 wooden skewers
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening

Directions

1 Step

The oven should be preheated to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). A large baking sheet should be placed on top of a baking rack.

2 Step

Place the skewered bacon on the oven rack after threading each slice of bacon onto a skewer.

3 Step

Bacon should be baked in a preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until crisp. Remove from oven and allow to fully cool.

4 Step

Mix the shortening and chocolate chips in a bowl that can go in the microwave. Stir after each 30-second interval while heating in the microwave to achieve smooth, melted chocolate.

5 Step

Using a pastry brush, spread the chocolate mixture on both sides of the bacon that has been skewered. Lay out the bacon that has been coated with waxed paper. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until firm. Keep chilled until you’re ready to serve.

Tips

Other topping choices include finely chopped walnuts, pistachios, toasted coconut, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper. While the chocolate is still wet, top it with the desired topping.
